A redesigned landing page with an engaging hero section.
The hero section of a web page, particularly a landing page, is full-width content that appears immediately under the logo and website menu. It is an opportunity to give your intended first impression to website visitors and build credibility and trust with your audience.
Taking advantage of the capabilities in our Drupal instance, I added quick link buttons to the most important resources within the section and wrote new copy with tones of encouragement and value. I also added a hero image that illustrated the wide variety of apprenticeship programs.
Identifying users & defining audience.
worked with program staff to learn more about the audience(s) of the Apprenticeships content. We determined that current and prospective apprentices, as well as apprenticeship sponsors and program representatives, visited this content the most.
I also wanted to understand the tasks and goals users could accomplish by visiting the section. Understanding what people wanted to do when they visited the Apprenticeships section helped me organize the content into different blocks, pages, and subsections.
Strengthening findability & increasing access to information.
Findability refers to how easy and seamless it is for website users to locate and access specific information. Through modules and page types, Drupal offered many ways of presenting and organizing website content which increased user findability.
By using a three-set card frame, a module found in our Drupal instance, I was able to group similar content together to create a thematic hub. For example, in the image below, I pulled in content related to publications and regulations, as well as local contacts, which served as a resource hub. I titled this “Read, Learn and Connect” with the subheading “Prepare Yourself for Something New,” as this was content that would help all users prepare for the apprenticeship program.
